PROTECTING Guernsey’s heritage should be high on the list of the island’s priorities, the Culture and Leisure minister has said.

Mike O’Hara was ecstatic that his department’s bid to receive extra funding for ‘improving storage of museum objects’ was one of 13 recommended projects earmarked for funding support in the States Strategic Plan.

While understanding that the policy team faced tough decisions when considering the 60-plus bids for extra cash, Deputy O’Hara said the extra funds to help preserve the island’s treasured artefacts was essential.

‘I’m delighted the bid has been recommended,’ he said. ‘It’s something that we have been trying to resolve for a considerable time, so for it to come up as a priority, we are obviously delighted.’
