Murderer’s brother in barbecue dispute with relative of his victim

Wednesday 1st September 2010, 2:29PM BST.

THE brother of a convicted murderer was arrested following a dispute with his neighbour – a relative of the victim.

Darren Rouget, 23, whose brother Craig was jailed for killing James Dean in a knife attack in Town in 2006, was having a barbecue at his then home address at Old Mill Estate, St Martin’s, when the incident happened at 9pm on 20 April.

The Magistrate’s Court heard that Rouget’s neighbour allegedly assaulted him after complaining about the noisy barbecue. When police arrived, Rouget, who had been drinking heavily, tried to go next door to ‘sort it out’ but was prevented by officers, who arrested him for conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace.

He was then further arrested for resisting police when he reacted aggressively, thrashing around.

Rouget, of no fixed address, admitted the offences in court. He was sentenced to 80 hours’ community service as a direct alternative to two months in prison.
