The secret of a long life? Just keep busy

Doris de CarteretEVEN at the age of 100 Doris de Carteret is still committed to helping other people.

Mrs de Carteret (pictured), who celebrates her milestone birthday today, still volunteers at the Russels Day Centre at Les Cotils, as she has done for 22 years.

The former nurse also volunteered for St John Ambulance and was awarded a medal for her 16 years of service.

Until she broke her hip in a fall three years ago, Mrs de Carteret also went door-to-door collecting for Christian Aid and St John Ambulance and Rescue subscriptions.

Keeping busy, she said, was the key to a long life.
