A POLISH crew member from the Huelin Dispatch had the big toe on his right foot severed yesterday afternoon.
It is believed that the 55-year-old caught his foot in the mechanism of a steel door.
The Fire & Rescue Service lifted the man from the bridge to the quay, where an ambulance was waiting to take him to hospital.
The incident happened just before 3pm. The man was walked to the bridge, where a paramedic gave him morphine for the pain.
Health and Safety confirmed they had attended, but were unsure at this stage whether an investigation into the accident would be carried out.
No one from Huelin-Renouf was available for comment.
