A COUPLE had a lucky escape when a candle started a blaze in their flat.1025299

Jessica Ferbrache, 19, was spending a romantic evening with boyfriend Waleed Ata, 24. She lit a small candle on top of the television but forgot to put it out.

The fire started to spread at about 2.30am yesterday at the couple’s flat in Port Vase, near Vauvert. They were awoken by the fire alarm going off.

‘It does sometimes go off for normal things, like burnt toast, so at first we didn’t worry,’ said Miss Ferbrache. ‘But then we started to notice the smoke.’
