JAMES MCLAUGHLIN has slashed 20 seconds off the all-comers’ five-mile time trial record at Perelle.

Record-breaker: James McLaughlin.

Record-breaker: James McLaughlin.

He completed the distance in just 10min. 14sec. in the first round of the September 5TT Series organised by the Guernsey Velo Club to finish 27 seconds ahead of Paul Brehaut.

On the same evening, Sophie Dorey set a new under-13 girls’ record of 14-55.

Following that success, McLaughlin and Allan Renyard rode in the British Time Trial Circuit Championships in the Towy Valley, west Wales.

As one of the older riders, Renyard had an early start to the lap-and-a-half on the hilly circuit.

Although the opening stages of the circuit well surfaced, after four miles the road became extremely worn making it hard for the riders to find a level piece of road.
