Experienced Irish dish out a lesson

TONY VANCE admitted that his island side were given a ‘wake-up call’ by the Republic of Ireland amateur team on Saturday.
Guernsey, playing for the first time in the England kit as the FA’s representatives, lost 5-2 in Dublin to an impressive Irish side and the island coach was giving no excuses for the defeat.
‘I’ve got no complaints. They were the better side and were good value for their win,’ Vance said.
‘All of us to a man were slightly off the pace and we have learnt some valuable lessons.’
