THE excellent reputation of the annual Guernsey petanque Open is spreading far and wide.

For years the event has attracted players from across Europe and this year a contingent from the other side of the world made their way from New Zealand via many different parts of the globe to congregate at the Club de Petanque in St Andrew’s.

‘We’ve got 10 people from all around New Zealand who have all gone on holiday to different places but the idea was we would all meet up this weekend in Guernsey,’ said Trevor Neilson, one of the Kiwi visitors.

He hails from Rotorua while others in his party come from towns such as Kerikeri, Auckland and Christchurch.
