‘£9.3m. is not enough for Manny’

Tuesday 14th September 2010, 2:29PM BST.

Manny HelmotTHE £9.3m. paid to a cyclist who was severely injured in a road accident to pay for his long-term care was not enough, it was argued yesterday.

The guardians of Manny Helmot (pictured) – his mother Rose Helmot and stepfather Ken Jordan – were challenging through the Guernsey Court of Appeal a decision of the Royal Court in January .

Former Guernsey Commonwealth Games cyclist Mr Helmot needs constant care after a car struck him while he was on a training ride in the Braye Road nearly 12 years ago.

Dylan Simon, who has taken no part in the proceedings, was driving the car. His insurers, Tradex, and its reinsurers are making a cross appeal as they claim the award was too high.
