HEATHER WATSON fell just short of a place in the main draw at the WTA Tour Bell Challenge in Quebec.

After two good qualifying round wins, she needed to win one more round to get into the main event but the 29-year-old French player Stephanie Foretz Gacon had too much experience for her and won 6-1, 6-1.

Ranked 182 and with more than $1m. in career winnings, Foretz Gacon was seeded seventh in the qualifiers.
