GRANT THORNTON prevented Colombians from completing a treble by winning a hard-fought Wave Telecom GCA Bowl final on Saturday.

A damp day saw a delayed start at the KGV and later a reduction to 27 overs per side, but against the odds the match was completed and it went down to the final over.

Grant Thornton captain Gary Perry won the toss and elected to bat, but after opening the innings, he was soon on his way back to the pavilion having been bowled by his opposite number, Philip Smith, with the third ball of the day.

There then followed a 72-run partnership between Simon Geall and John Fleming, both cashing in on the bad balls with Fleming particularly sending anything short to the boundary but also mixing in some solid drives.
