Island’s new car sales buck the national downward trend

car salesCAR sales in Guernsey appear to be bucking the national trend.

Franchised dealers at the Lions Club of Guernsey Motor Fair on Saturday reported an increase in purchases over the past year. That contrasts with UK figures, which are down 17.5% on last August.

Representatives from the UK motor industry say that was partly down to summer holidays and a desire to wait for this month’s new 60 registration plate.

But economic uncertainty as the government reviews its spending and tax policy is likely to keep UK figures down for the rest of the year. However, here in Guernsey it appears to be a different story.
