ATHLETICS became the first side to book their place in the Rawlinson Cup semi-finals last night, but they will need to improve on this performance if they are to progress further on Saturday.
Goals in either half from Danny Marquand and Angus Mackay were enough to see Steve Ogier’s side past Rovers at the Track, yet the consistency the former island coach craves from his team was noticeable by its absence.
To be fair, Tics played some neat football at times in the first half, largely orchestrated through Mackay in a central midfield role, but after the break Ogier was constantly bemoaning the way his players were giving the ball away too easily and in dangerous areas.
Rovers were unable to take full advantage of that and although they were the better side for long periods in the second half, they failed to test Lee Savident in the Tics goal.
