No States interference in fuel

 Total fuel outlet at Ville au RoiUNCERTAINTY about Guernsey’s future fuel supplier has sparked fears of a monopoly.

French fuel giant Total announced last week that it is to get out of the Channel Islands and UK petrol pump market.

In the interests of competition, Commerce and Employment would like to see another company enter the local market in its place.

But a spokesman for the department said it would leave the outcome to market forces.

It was not States policy, he said, to intervene in a commercial transaction between willing sellers and buyers.

    I think they mean suppliers. Sainsbury’s petrol supplier is BP they don’t actually drill themselves. So companies like – Shell, BP, Total, Esso…
