‘Three into one just won’t go’

UNITING the island’s three summer shows would not be a good idea, according to the organisers of the West and South events.
Commenting on news that the future of the North Show was under threat, they said it was a shame the two-day celebration was in trouble but felt that joining forces was not the way to go.
West Show president Carole Turner said it was sad the North Show had suffered such a bad year. Last month’s torrential rain left the two-day event a washout.
‘We are all in the hands of the gods when it comes to weather,’ she said. ‘It was such a shame, but there is nothing you can do.’

I reckon the three shows combined would be good for guernsey, my old mate plaza john says it would be far better down saumarez park at least you can enjoy an alcoholic drink down there whilst watching guernseys finest!!!

Back@John.
I was referring to the amalgamated shows hosting miss guernsey. Now plaza John has moved away to pastures new & the previous venue now only serving soft drinks ATM.
Guernseys finest always look better from
The bottom of a half empty guiness glass!

Why not have the shows on a Friday/Saturday rather than in the middle of the week? I know that this is breaking with tradition but the vast majority of people work 5 days a week Monday to Friday and miss out. Visitor figures would undoubtedly be improved!

When i last saw the figure and spoke to people in the know, the main reason the north show wanted to amalgamate was becuase the west show was making profits every year and had a large cash surplus. The north show was running at a loss and had huge debts.
This was 15 or more years ago so might have changes.
The North wanted to merge so they could offset the two bank accounts and get rid of the competition.

Ok Forest Fred now I see what you measn,I agree about the Guiness.
Magnus that would be a better idea having it a t weekends,

Agree with Magnus, the shows should not be in the middle of the week where the majority of workers miss out. Also it might be better a bit earlier in the summer when the weather is better, the end of august is practically autumn!
