Alderney-based airline ‘closer’ as Bluerigny proposal fails

Former Aurigny pilot Ray Bowyer

FORMER pilot Ray Bowyer is still hoping to take over Aurigny’s Trislander fleet and launch an Alderney-based airline.

The ex-Aurigny employee (pictured) said this week’s decision to scrap the proposed Blue Islands/Aurigny merger had strengthened his position as he looks to operate flights from Alderney to Southampton and Guernsey as well as setting up new routes. Under his vision, Aurigny would then be able to focus on other UK links.

‘Nothing has changed, from my point of view,’ said Mr Bowyer. ‘This development means we are the only runner in the frame to salvage Aurigny and get it back into profit.

‘Charles Parkinson [Treasury and Resources minister] has raised the point that Aurigny needs to become profitable and we can offer a considerable sum of money for the Trislander operation that will help slim down Aurigny and give the airline a chance to concentrate on the Gatwick route.’

Ever since Ray Bowyer spotted a UFO from his Trislander seat he has been living on another planet. What exactly is it that he thinks he can do better than Aurigny (with 42 years experience) with the same aircraft, the same pilots and the same ground crew? He thinks he will have lower overheads, but how does he know how much of Aurigny’s overhead is apportioned to the Alderney operations. Somebody please beam him up!

With 42 years of experience, Aurigny should know that pre-ATR it was usually profitable. Bowyer wants the core of the company (Tri operations) and can turn it to profit, without any of the UK mainland (except SOU) routes interfering with profitability. Simple business plans = simple profits in Bowyers book, stop talking about UFOs! Irrelevant!

Were you frazzled by the alien’s lazer beam too?

Pre-ATR, there was no Blue Islands and Aurigny had monopolies on inter island services, that’s how they made money. Take away the competition and they could be profitable again, maybe. Create two overhead structures servicing the same passenger services as Aurigny does currently with one = higher costs and greater losses.

    It’s not rocket science!
