Back in profit in two to three years’ time – Aurigny MD
Friday 17th September 2010, 1:00PM BST.
AURIGNY will be back in profit within two or three years, its managing director has pledged.
Malcolm Hart (pictured) assured islanders that the States-owned airline would soon reap the benefits of its investment in three new routes over the last couple of years.
After announcing it was pulling out of the deal to sell Aurigny to Blue Islands, Treasury and Resources minister Charles Parkinson warned that the States was not prepared to bankroll a loss-making airline and that he fully expected Mr Hart and Aurigny’s board to return it to profitability.
But Blue Islands chairman Derek Coates suggested Aurigny was a financial ‘basket case’. And he said the rejection of his takeover proposal would see taxpayers writing a ‘blank cheque’ to prop up the loss-making airline.

I am not in the slightest bit impressed by any of this back-biting & bitterness this deal has been reduced into. It is not helpful or professional by either side. I hope it stops instantly.
A change in management should be the way forward now. I am well aware buffet-boy is still circling like a vulture who has spotted his first gigantic big mac n fries.
Sell him the uneconomical, outdated & unwanted planes. Would be an interesting exercise. The guy is offering “whatever it takes.” So, the full market value with a sweetener on top should be about right.
Keep the meeting short & sweet. Here is the redundant fleet. We are wanting X amount. Get the money & they are yours.
No entertainment, or media stunts & time wasting exercises. Take the offer away & come back if, & only if, you are in a position to pay what is being asked.
It is now time to expect the users of the airlines to pay what it actually costs without having their backsides wiped by the taxpayer & others who would not normally be so accommodating given alternatives.
Enough is enough. If you need it then pay for it without whinging.
BI & Aurigny cannot keep up this farce of displaying, to anybody that cares, they are playing a game of “who can afford to be the biggest loser.”
Ultimately, once one has been defeated a proper tariff would be automatic so that the losses could be clawed back.
Airlines need to get back to basics with prices. This is the price. This is what you pay. Keep all the hidden extras out of the agenda & the whingers won’t have the ammunition they crave.
Both carriers need to be mature enough to see they are doing nobody, other that their customers, any favours at all.
If people are petty enough to bitch over an extra 20 or £30 then the boat is their obvious alternative.
No consultants are needed here either. Just a different approach with a realistic ticket price so that a loss making venture can be turned into profit making instantly.
Raise the prices right now. It is the only realistic solution to the problem. Taxpayers don’t want liabilities on their hands forever & a day. I am sure BI & DC is of the same opinion too.
Buffet-boy could offer UFO tours around the Channel Islands & monitor crop circles for the farmers.
