GUERNSEY’S out of Town centres could be better designed for road users, according to a street expert.

Living Streets UK people and places campaign coordinator Majeed Neky was in the island last night to give a talk about naked streets and how Guernsey could benefit from fewer road signs.

This could include improving viewpoints, pavements and street furniture.

He arrived yesterday afternoon and was shown round the island.

‘From what I’ve seen so far the Town centre is doing really well but the village centres could do better.’

When I saw the headline I thought for a moment that Living Streets had given up on road safety and had become a lobby group for nudists.

We do not need some outsider to tell us how to singpost our island and an eye contact response because most road users do not give way or try to jump traffic lights even if it is not there turn they must belive they always have the right of way sings or not and what happnes when you report these ones nothing so where do you go from there prey tell?

Street expert? What on earth is that? Does that mean he understands how they are constructed, what materials should be used, the markings etc? What about getting a real job?

You’ll be seeing a pavement width expert invited across to Guernsey next…

Road signs, markings and traffic signals are a safety requirement. Removing them all is completey unthinkable. Living streets seem to favour vanity over safety. Ms Wisher is never happy with anything especially people who just want to drive their cars without hassle, why can’t she just go away and leave things alone.

There is a difference between a street and road. We don’t have many streets here and those that we do have seem to be relatively sign free.

I personally think we do alright for signage(or lack thereof).
