Third Time Lucky playing their ‘final’ gig at the KGV last Friday. (1028624)
IT HAS been three years since Third Time Lucky last played a gig on the island, but with two of the four-piece punk band planning to leave Guernsey the quartet decided to do one last gig.
In their final show, the band were supported by fellow punk rockers Breaking the Silence as well as 2 Minutes 2 Late, who both gave entertaining performances playing familiar covers which gave the crowd plenty of chances to sing along. Last Friday’s event took place at KGV, which meant that it was open to under-18s.
Daniel Le Prevost, lead singer of TTL, spoke of the importance of opening up the show to all ages.
‘When we started this band we were all 16 and this gives younger people a chance to get into the music.’
In recent years, the under-age gig has become a rarity with most venues catering for over-18 music lovers only.
But Danny, who is leaving to study at Bristol, remains optimistic for the survival of the local scene.
‘Venues may have died, but the scene is still alive.’
That was very evident as hardcore TTL fans descended on the KGV, singing along to the three-year-old material and all partaking in a mass dance to TTL’s original, Knees Up.
The band played a set with no hint of being out of practise and provided entertaining banter between the songs.
The quartet’s performance provided a real blast from the past, bringing back great memories of all the gigs from three years ago when such shows were open to all ages with bands playing sets of original material.
TTL’s performance was a sharp reminder to current bands of the high standard that was the norm only a few years ago.
