Post is still well protected, say its packet market rivals
Saturday 18th September 2010, 2:29PM BST.
OPENING up the packet market offers few opportunities to Guernsey’s Post’s competitors and, according to its rivals, exposes the company to little extra competition.
The Office of Utility Regulation this week opened up the bulk-mail packet market to competition.
Other mail companies can now offer to handle all packets and letters that cost more than £1.35 to post.
As part of an agreement with the OUR, Guernsey Post has kept its monopoly on all other types of mail – such as letters and large-letters – costing up to £1.35 to post.
It means that Guernsey Post can hold on to a large part of the bulk retail export market, which includes single CDs and DVDs that fall within the large-letter category.
