Union boss fumes to learn of pay and conditions review

AN INDEPENDENT review of the terms and conditions of all States staff is imperative to ensure the structure of workers’ pay and benefits is sustainable, according to a deputy who has placed an amendment to ensure it gets the go-ahead.
Deputy Mary Lowe (pictured) wants to see the Policy Council and the Public Sector Remuneration Committee, which failed to receive the necessary funding as part of the original States Strategic Plan report, given the cash to carry out the review.
She has placed an amendment that would take half of the £250,000 earmarked for improving storage of museum objects and divert it to this project instead.
The review would look at all details of the terms and conditions of States employees, including the controversial final salary pension scheme.

Can we ask for the other half of the museum’s approved cash to get the Policy Council and Public Sector Remuneration Committee to review States Deputy’s financial remuneration and attendance terms and conditions at the same time? It would be interesting to see just how much time the various Deputies put in for their money – maybe a league table would be in order?
