Former England skipper checks Herm as charity cricket moves
Tuesday 21st September 2010, 2:29PM BST.

Former England cricket captain Mike Gatting, far right, checks out the new area in Herm where next year’s Lord’s Taverners charity cricket match will be played. With him, left to right, are Herm’s Jonathan Watson and Brett Moore, and Derek Shepherd, chairman of the local Taverners region.
FORMER England cricket captain Mike Gatting has been in Herm to see work on a new wicket near the island’s campsite.
The Guernsey region of the Lord’s Taverners has decided to relocate its 2011 annual celebrity cricket weekend to Herm from Sark, where it has taken place for the last 12 years.
‘We will be exploring new ground by moving the event to Herm and we all think it is time to refresh things,’ said Taverners chairman Derek Shepherd.
He said the switch had nothing to do with a dispute that surrounded this year’s event, which resulted in Sark Estate Management Ltd withdrawing the £10,000 sponsorship it had provided in each of the last three years.
