Professor calls for leap of faith on waste plan

GUERNSEY could reduce its waste rapidly if politicians were prepared to take a leap of faith.
Last night, waste management expert Professor Paul Connett discussed a range of eco-friendly and sustainable solutions to be considered for the new island waste strategy.
Among the initiatives were a waste separation programme, a kerbside collection for kitchen waste, a pay by bag scheme for residual or non-recyclable waste, and a recycling information and research centre.
Professor Connett (pictured) said all his recommendations were low tech and cost-effective, but it was up to islanders and politicians to see them implemented.
