UK GOVERNMENT plans to target wealthy tax dodgers are not aimed at Guernsey, the chief minister has assured.

Deputy Lyndon Trott was at the Liberal Democrats conference in Liverpool, the first since they took power with the Conservatives in May.

Yesterday, Lib Dems leader Nick Clegg built on a message delivered on Sunday by Treasury Chief Secretary Danny Alexander – that people who avoid or evade paying tax would not get away with it.

‘We will be tough on welfare cheats. But unlike Labour, we’ll be tough on tax cheats too. We will crack down on the super-rich who hide away money overseas.’ said Mr Clegg.

But Deputy Trott said there was a clear understanding in the UK Government that Guernsey was a friend, not a foe, on tax.

“My good friends, for the second time in our history, a Guernsey Chief Minister has returned from Britain bringing peace with honour.

I believe it is peace for our time…
Go home and get a nice quiet sleep.”

If anyone believes that bit about not touching those hoarders of money in the Islands–
Then they are bigger fools than otherwise thought.

Why should they get away with it when others will suffer:
I don’t believe that minister or trust ours.

Letters to the Dailies, might stir it a bit-

Listened in horror, as usual, to two of our glorious leaders on the BBC phone in yesterday.

They believe that Guernsey people would gladly pay GST to support the loss making finance industry.
Prove it to us then, call their bluff. Bring in 10% corporation tax next week. Then wait whilst other countries queue up for the honour of having their taxes increased for the privilige of having them move there.

Then they can pay a GST so their politicians can hob nob with the big wigs to make them feel important.
