West and Denton cruise to titles

ROB WEST showed his class to cruise to victory in the men’s singles competition of the 2010 MeesPierson Senior Guernsey Closed tennis championships.

The event was missing the notable figures of Patrick Ogier and Dom McLuskey, both of whom were off island, which made West the strong favourite to win the crown.

And he proved that theory to be spot on as he beat Nico Robinson 6-1, 6-2 in a one-sided final, during which West lost his serve only once.

That had come on the back of an identical scoreline against Dan Strappini in the semi-finals earlier in the weekend, a match in which again he rarely looked under pressure.
