HEATHER WATSON came through a long first round match yesterday to set up a meeting with the number two seed at the Aegon GB Pro-Series in Shrewsbury.
The Sarnian finally overcame Cagla Buyukakcay of Turkey 6-2, 6-7 (7), 6-2 by winning her fifth match point at the Welti Tennis Centre.
It was a good victory for world No. 211 Watson as her opponent is ranked 17 places above her.
Watson now faces German Sabine Lisicki, who is currently the world No. 90 having last year reached a career high of 22nd, for a quarter-final place.
