GUERNSEY’S Heather Watson celebrated one of the biggest victories of her senior career yesterday with a win over second seed Sabine Lisicki of Germany at the AEGON GB Pro-Series in Shrewsbury.

The 18-year-old former Junior US Open champion beat Lisicki

7-6, 6-2 to move into a quarter-final contest against eighth seed Eva Birnarova of the Czech Republic.

Lisicki is the world No. 90, having ended 2009 as high as 23rd.

‘I played very well today, much better than I did yesterday, but I am still getting back into playing matches after a bit of a break,’ said Watson, ranked 211th in the world.

‘This result gives me huge confidence to know that I can go out and beat a top player. Now I’ve just got to go out and use that feeling and take it into the next match.’
