GUERNSEY coarse anglers sent their Jersey rivals packing with a comfortable home victory in the 25th anniversary inter-island freshwater fishing match.

The two teams of six competed on Willow Lake in Hougue des Doreys where the triumphant Guernsey fishermen managed two sections wins and a draw to beat the visitors.

The six-hour event saw local anglers put together a combined weight of just over 61lb compared to the Jerseymen’s 38lb in what proved to be a hard-fought match.

Practice sessions on the picturesque fishery suggested its prolific stocks of small bream would provide the mainstay of catches.
