Tribunal asked to keep historic farm land free of mower shed

Thursday 23rd September 2010, 2:29PM BST.

A COUPLE are hoping to overturn a planning decision and keep their garden sheds on land within a historic rural area.

But Environment fears such a move could open the floodgates and begin the urbanisation of the island’s rural heritage.

Frances and Nigel Le Marchant were refused retrospective planning permission by Environment for three sheds in a field adjoining their Torteval home.

The application was rejected on the grounds it was not in keeping with the surrounding agricultural area.

The independent appeals panel of Sheelagh Evans and Patrick Russell, chaired by William Bowen, heard the couple had not realised they needed permission to put up sheds on their land.
