Rhoderick MatthewsTHE Policy Council will have until December next year to present a report on government transparency, if an amendment to the States’ Strategic Plan is accepted.

Two years ago, it agreed to look at other jurisdictions with the aim of establishing a freedom of information policy. But this has not yet been produced.

Now Deputy Rhoderick Matthews (pictured) has placed an amendment with a deadline for that work, which would put the idea of open government back into the spotlight.

So the States have already had two years to look at this and now a Deputy is attempting to ‘speed up’ the process by giving them another fifteen months to report back

No wonder the then Castel Deputy Dave Nussbaumer packed in his role as a States member out of sheer frustration a few years ago

This will not make a blind bit of difference, the States have never wanted “Freedom of information”,heaven forbid that the population was able too find out what goes on behind closed doors. We have no Fianancial Ombudsman, we only have a depositors Compensation Scheme, (inadequate)only because a bank went bust ( Landsbanki Guernsey). Our Government totally lacks any sort of transparency, Our Public services can’t even make any decent decisions on waste management. Our Chief Minister spends most of his time off island trying to impress other Government officials. Brussels mumbles a little disatisfaction and we jump in all directions. At Present the Island is a total shambles.
