Dalmacija [Croatia] 1, Guernsey [England] 1
IT WAS mission accomplished as Guernsey earned a deserved point from their opening encounter of the Uefa Regions Cup against the hosts in Dugopolje yesterday.
After falling behind to an impressive Stijepo Njire strike on 14 minutes, Tony Vance’s side soon levelled matters through a stunning Ross Allen half-volley four minutes later.
Although Allen’s goal got the campaign off to an unbeaten start, it was Ben Coulter who was the star of the show, rewarding Vance’s faith to bring him back into the starting 11 after injury with a tireless display in the centre of the park.
Alongside him, Matt Warren also played his part in a game where the Sarnians, representing England, were slightly the better side, but had to put up with some shameful Croatian play acting.
