HERM learned valuable lessons from their first ever football match against Bels, despite a heavy defeat at Victoria Avenue.

For them it was simply a delight to get their new team off and running.

A 10-0 defeat does not sound good but Bels fielded seven first-team players and Herm captain Sion Jones believes his side can take plenty of positives from a thoroughly enjoyable outing.

‘Introducing people to football is what it’s all about for us and it was a pleasure to come over,’ Jones said.

‘We all gave 100% and we’re pleased with how we did as we were up against a tough team and a lot of our guys didn’t even know each other before we got this team together.’

Well done Bels, great way to welcome a new club into the Guernsey football family. Put half the first team out and give them a good thumping. Suppose we have to be thankful that the island players weren’t available or they’d have had a game too.
