AFTER a week of uncertainty, Guernsey athletes will finally arrive in Delhi today to compete for honours at the Commonwealth Games.

Team Guernsey left to fly the flag for the island yesterday morning. They were due to land in India at 10.30am today.

Among those at the airport waiting to head off to the Games, which have been dogged by controversy and concern over India’s preparations, were medal hopefuls Dale Garland and Alice Loveridge.

Last-minute checks by the team’s advance party led by chef de mission David Harry gave the facilities the all-clear on Friday, although news was emerging over the weekend that some parts of the athletes’ village would not be ready until tomorrow.
