GUERNSEY were left heartbroken yesterday in Croatia as they were eliminated from the Uefa Regions Cup after a 3-0 defeat to Turkey.

The scoreline does little to tell the story, as Guernsey were subjected to pinching, scratching and biting off the ball, including an incident where Ben Coulter was bitten on his bottom by Halim Donmez, something that enraged the Guernsey party.

The Sarnians were forced to play the second half with 10 men after Tom Le Tissier’s dismissal on the stroke of half-time and while coach Tony Vance admitted that decision was ‘one of those that could go either way’, he was fuming at the Turks’ approach.

‘It was not a game of football today,’ he said. ‘If they can celebrate a victory like that, then what can I say?’

If the media reports are anything to go by the behaviour of the opposition was certainly an eye opener. Some of the antics were well beyond those which any player should receive and it would be all to easy to retaliate. Due credit to the Guernsey players for their self discipline in what has appeared to have soured the end of what has been a fantastic achievement.

Well done to all concerned you deserve the praise and should be proud of yourselves.

Turkey should be ashamed it was a terriable act, which every football lover should agree with. they do not love the game, people like that should be banned from playing football at an elite level if they choose to play in such a dirty and horriable manner. The Ref’s were not fair and to say that they are the FA’s (FIFA) fully qualified refs they should be banned, football is a great sport but when not played properly it can cause mentally and physical strain on not just the players but also their fans. i feel that they should be out of the Uefa Regions Cup and that every single football player should know what they did and what the concequences are, so they can learn never to play like that and also have higher respect for the great game Football!!!!
