APPLAUSE greeted the Guernsey football team as they arrived back in the island last night, holding their heads high.
Friends and family met the team off their delayed flight at 9.30pm, after the players had been travelling for more than 10 hours on their way back from Croatia.
The team were representing England in the Uefa Regions Cup until a controversial game on Tuesday, which they lost 0-3 to Turkey.
The team were bitten, pinched and scratched by the Turkish players.
Coach Tony Vance said he understood a complaint against the Turkish was being lodged following the match.
