PROGRESS made in getting Landsbanki Guernsey depositors their money back means that no public meeting with them is now necessary, the States heard yesterday.

The bank collapsed in October 2008 and since then the Landsbanki Guernsey Depositors’ Action Group has lobbied hard for States action.

During question time Deputy David De Lisle sought an update on what the chief minister and Policy Council had done.

Chief Minister Lyndon Trott said that responsibility for recovering the depositors’ money rested with the Royal Court-appointed joint administrators – the Policy Council was in regular contact.

So far 67.5p in the pound has been returned – it is estimated that eventually depositors will get back 91p.

It may of course just be myself ,but is’nt Lyndon rapidly turning into one of those jolly people that we all often meet, the ones that really cant stop talking never allowing another view to enter the conversation bumbling along in total self belief with fools adoration,Discuss.

Agree, I cannot accept that excuse. So people are expected to accept 69%, or at best 91%? Bet if it was his money that was lost he would have done more. Shame on the Guernsey Government. Doesn’t make me feel better by grumbling, but at least I hope that this topic never dies a death until it is sorted.

Hate to be the one to point it out, but it has died already.
Just look at the avalanche of posts that the headline has caused (ignore mine for statistical purposes!!)

The reason for the lack of posts could be the attitude of the local people posting on the subject. Most seem to feel comfortable with the fact that an injustice has been commited as long as it wasn,t to them. I find it difficult to believe that the people of guernsey are happy being represented by the likes of Lyndon Trott but when one reads some of the comments posted on this suject maybe they deserve him!

May I reassure Pyer that the Landsbanki Guernsey fiasco has not died, neither has the commitment of the depositors to have the 100% of their money returned.

There will be occasions and this is one of them where we feel our ‘comments’ should be directed fully at Lyndon Trott, the Chief Minister, taking into consideration he has eventually replied to the questions asked by the Landsbanki Depositors Action Group.

If there was any justice, this guy should be trialed for gross negligence for failing to act to protect the interests of 600 local people (and twice as many unsuspecting people from overseas who entrusted their life savings to the self-proclaimed “well regulated” Guernsey).

Iceland seems to be ready to come clean by putting their ex-PM in the dock for gross negligence. Will Guernsey find any courage to follow the same path or will it be just happy to keep all those skeletons in the cupboard?

The last two years’ events have convinced me that Guernsey is not the right place where to keep my savings: shaky “guarantees”, no regulation worth mentioning, no political will to protect depositors’ interest. Although I was fortunate enough not to be a depositor with Landsbanki Guernsey, I have friends who were and I want to draw the lessons from this fiasco before I get caught myself in the next one…

I currently still have my savings in Guernsey and want to transfer them to the UK. BUT WHERE TO???? Would anybody be so kind to circulate a list of UK-based banks which accept deposits from offshore depositors?

If you do, please post it on these forums; you will do every depositor a great service.

    Thanks.
