NO FEWER than 32 new records were set in the Specsavers 100m swimming Championships.

The results are even more pleasing considering the event was the first of the new season, with competitors still working their way back to full fitness after the summer break.

Brian Allen, president of the Guernsey Amateur Swimming Association, was delighted with the performance of all the record-busting competitors, including those who did not finish first but still outswam the previous record.

‘This event was early in the season, so swimmers have only just returned to full-time training,’ said Allen.

‘It is pleasing to see so many records broken so early in the programme.’
