THIS year’s Nerine Festival got under way on Saturday.

Hundreds of islanders and visitors visited the glasshouse in Lower Candie Gardens, where around 300 of the Guernsey lilies are on display.

The Guernsey branch of the National Council for the Conservation of Plants and Gardens organises the event.

NCCPG events organiser Tattie Thompson said the first day of the festival, which is in its 11th year, had been a success.

‘There was a tremendous rush when we opened this morning,’ she said.

If you wanted to actually get your hands on some real red lilies check out Roger Beausire at the top of St Saviours hill. He’s got a couple of old wooden greenhouses full of them in October and I just got some from him for the wife. They smell a bit of chocolate!
