‘Decide just what you want from Europe’

Alastair SuttonGUERNSEY should decide what it wants from Europe, the island’s top European adviser has said.

Professor Alastair Sutton (pictured) was speaking prior to his talk yesterday to members of the finance industry and other interested parties.

Guernsey and Europe had changed since Protocol Three, which protects trade, was negotiated about 40 years ago, he said.

‘The question today for the politicians, for government, industry and the people of Guernsey is, how do we want to go forward?’

    After Guernsey having decided what they want from Europe, we need to prepare ourselves for the next question what does Europe want from us in return.
    We have currently a warm and prosperous relationship with the mainland, do we need Europe actually, we are interlinked with them anyway as Britain has already a link to the EU, why should we?

    since when do we have a warm and prosperous relationship with england (avoided calling it the mainland there you notice) when half the time, its minister this ,or that, telling us what we ought to be doing, no different to the eu
