Change to driving test good idea – instructors
Wednesday 13th October 2010, 2:29PM BST.
INSTRUCTORS have welcomed proposed changes to the driving test.
Guernsey plans to follow the UK, which has introduced a section where learners drive without instruction from one place to another.
They will have to follow a route for 10 minutes using only the signposted directions they come across.
The new approach was not introduced locally this month as it has to be adapted for island use, but Environment says it is expected to feature soon.

They should change the Theory Test too, it’s a money making scheme for The States, simple as that.
If they wanted people to have a better understanding of road safety they would publish the answers and the answers to the questions you got wrong, so you know where to improve on your next test.
The States would say “The could easily give out the answers to their friends”, yes theory test sitters could do this, but if more people knew the answers to these questions the roads would be a much safer place.
All in all, the theory test is just a money making scheme, and you have to call some call centre in the UK just to book it!

Mr G
I suspect the Mr part means Master rather than Mister ?
You sound as if you have recently left school where you have picked up the habit of easy exams
Publish the answers indeed!
Rumour has it that next year’s A level results will be close to 110% pass rate

Ray, are you serious? I recently partook in an evening class for Physics A Level, the exams aren’t getting easier my friend.
Next years A level results will be lower than previous years, it’s because of those that think “exams are getting easier” the exam boards are changing grade boundaries ;)
Where is the harm in publishing the answers? It will achieve a better understanding of the Highway code, and as a result we will all better drivers for it.
It’s a money making scheme for The States, but they probably are making a loss as the call centre is based in the UK. And they probably have to regulate it too, and maybe get some “specialists” in to decide on some things. (oh yes, we need a chair here for somebody to sit on, should we get some chair specialists in to decide for us?)

Laugh….the article says “they will have to follow a route for 10 minutes using only the signposted directions they come across”
Anyone think that might just be a problem here in Guernsey….signposts..interesting concept, I’ve seen them in foreign parts but they are a rarity over here, especially in some rural areas where some douzaines think signposts don’t fit in with the rural setting.
As a chap I used to work with years ago used to say ‘they took the signs down before the Germans arrived and never put them back up’
