LIVES should be safer on Herm after a group of islanders qualified to help in emergency situations.
The 10 residents have been trained to deal with a wide range of incidents, including those requiring resuscitation and defibrillation.
Chief ambulance officer Jon Beausire said this kind of training was vital for the island.
‘Unlike Guernsey, if an emergency happens [in Herm], it can take us 30 to 40 minutes to get to the island,’ he said.
‘The new first responders will be able to help during the time it takes us to travel from Guernsey. This will help save lives.’
