Lower Pollet closure is abandoned after trial

A CONTROVERSIAL temporary late-night traffic ban in the Lower Pollet on Fridays and Saturdays will not become permanent.
A four-week trial scheme, during which the road was closed between 11pm and 3am, ended on Saturday and the Environment Department said yesterday it would not be repeated on advice from police.
A department spokesman said the scheme had been successful by reducing the interaction between cars and people, particularly those leaving the nightclubs.
But concerns had been raised about the increased number of people gathering in the Lower Pollet, which generated extra noise and, in some cases, loutish behaviour.
