Starting new centre is a leap of faith

BUILDING a new community centre at St Stephen’s is a leap of faith, according to one of its trustees.

The corrugated iron building which had stood there for more than 100 years was demolished yesterday to make way for a new one.

But although work has started, almost £200,000 is still needed to complete the St Peter Port project.

Tony Kaines, one of three trustees alongside David Le Lievre and Father Philip Carrington, said the redevelopment idea started 15 years ago and was initially meant to be a millennium scheme.
