‘We’re not perfect’
Tuesday 19th October 2010, 2:30PM BST.
THE method by which Guernsey selects its Commonwealth Games team can be improved, accepts Peter Sirett, chairman of the Guernsey Commonwealth Games Association.
Back from the heat of Delhi where he made five medal presentations, Sirett (pictured) admitted that the island has not got a perfect approach to selecting a team – and might never have.
‘I don’t think it will ever be perfectly right, but we can improve it,’ he said. ‘One thing we could do is make the deadlines [for selection] later.
‘We could probably pull the deadlines back.’
Such words will be music to the ears of some sports and particularly athletics, swimming and cycling, where individuals can run, in the broader sense of the word, into form very late or, on the other side of the coin, fall back on performance.
