I am living with sewage, says man in Rouge Huis drains row

Wednesday 20th October 2010, 11:30AM BST.

Mark EddieA HOMEOWNER says he has been forced to share his house with raw sewage because of a drains dispute with his neighbour.

Mark Eddie, 47, (pictured) claims he has also had to knock down an extension and watch his St Peter Port property become uninhabitable because of next-door’s waste backing up and ‘spewing’ out of a drain in his back garden.

Sometimes things have got so bad at his Rouge Huis Avenue home he has had to clear the blockages with his bare hands.

‘The neighbour won’t do anything because she says her tenants don’t have a problem,’ he said. ‘I have tried bringing in Environmental Health and Guernsey Water as this is in the water catchment area. But they have done nothing about it – it just feels like they’re knocking their heads together.’

Owner of the neighbouring property Patricia Bennett said she was aware of a drains problem but hoped it was now sorted.

This is quite a common problem here and will become even more common due to the older clos and estates, that were made on the cheap, having pipework running through other people’s properties!

If it was me I would’ve just added some pipes and made it go into Pat’s property.

Excellent idea Mr G. If the info that we are given is correct and Environment and Guernsey Water will not attend to, and correct, the matter then why not divert the stuff back to where it came from? What other option does Mr Eddie have?

Interesting idea Mr G but I am not sure how you would get it to run back up hill. Easier solution put a bung in the drain! Surely one of our drain cleaning companys should be able to sort the problem out.
