Bowel screening change delights cancer charity

KEY moves to help the island’s battle with bowel cancer have delighted campaigners.
The Guernsey Bowel Cancer Awareness charity praised Health and Social Services for its decision to change the method of screening for the disease, while also welcoming the Medical Specialist Group’s appointment of two surgeons who will share a role specialising in disorders of the large bowel.
HSSD announced this week that it had approved moving to a sigmoidoscopy method of screening because it was much more effective – reducing deaths by around 40%.
Should the States decide next week to back an amendment to the States Strategic Plan which would allocate money so that bowel cancer screening could be introduced, the moves will enable the department to implement the project within a year.
Guernsey Bowel Cancer Awareness chairwoman Anne Brouard (pictured) said the charity was supportive of the steps taken by HSSD and the MSG.

I agree totally with any effort to improve bowel cancer screening, bowel cancer apparently the largest cancer killer of men on the island. But what about preventative medicine in the first place? What is being done about preventative medicine?

Any improvement/progress in regards to early detection of, apparently, Guernsey’s largest killer of men, colon (bowel) cancer, is applaudable. However, British reseachers have found that any Guernsey person – everyone in the world in fact who does or does not have this awful desease – can help themselves greatly by taking a low dose (75 ml to 300ml) Aspirin daily. Doing so also helps prevent heart attack and stroke!! But don’t take my word for it ( I don’t have shares in ‘Aspirin’ or anything else for that matter by the way)instead go ask your Doctor or go onto the internet where you fill find all manner of proof of the above from reliable sources. Best wishes.
