Mixed champs start campaign with victory

THE Guernsey Volleyball Association started its 2010-11 season with the popular Mixed League and with 10 teams competing on the first night, there was plenty of opportunity for some good competition on both courts.

In Mixed Division One, RB Coquelin served off proceedings on court two as they took on newly-promoted Doyle Motors Bruisers captained by Andrew Sparkes and although the former scored with a straight-set victory, Doyles put up a spirited defence.

Coquelin used Niall Bougourd’s strength in serving as they opened up a 12-4 margin in the first set and placed them well for a first set win, but with this division now being the best of five sets to present more court time opportunity Doyles never took the result lying down.

In fact, the whole team rallied well, especially their eventual player of the match, Tony Fulgoni.
