FIREFIGHTERS were called to the Flying Christine III after a small engine fire left the marine ambulance issuing black smoke.

The alarm was raised at 10.15 yesterday morning after the smoke was spotted pouring out of the engine room of the 46ft-vessel by crew on the Herm Trident.

Trident engineer Mark Giles said they had hailed the rescue craft to see if it needed assistance, but its engineer had the fire under control.

No-one was injured in the incident.
