La Mare ‘still fit for purpose’
Saturday 23rd October 2010, 2:29PM BST.
STUDENTS studying at La Mare de Carteret High School are getting a good deal, according to head teacher Ken Wheeler.
The school was built in 1975, and is one of three States high schools. St Sampson’s High School was rebuilt in 2008, and work on Les Beaucamps could start in just six weeks.
La Mare is the last school due for a rebuild, and Mr Wheeler (pictured) hoped the momentum for that would continue.
‘We don’t know when the school will be rebuilt,’ he said.
‘We may have another five or six years here, and the Education Department is spending money to look after the school. We want to ensure that the children who are coming to this school are getting a good deal.’

“Education Department is spending money to look after the school”
First time I’ve ever heard of a States department actually looking after a building they’ve built. If they actually maintained all their buildings they’d have far less rebuilding to carry out.

St Anne’s School in Alderney was 40 last year! No rebuild on the horizon there and it’s the only “high” school on the island!

Sadly, no one cares about Alderney
