HE MAY be a triple winner of the Intertrust Guernsey International Chess Festival, but Tiger Hillarp-Persson is modest when it comes to his current form.

Yesterday, he took on the tournament’s top-ranked player, English grandmaster Nick Pert, in an eagerly-anticipated battle at the Peninsula.

And before that encounter, Hillarp-Persson spoke about how the week so far had gone and how this year’s event compared to previous editions.

‘I am reasonably happy with the way I have played,’ he said.
